Dynamic Positioning Operations Manuals

BOS produces Vessel specific DP Operations Manuals in accordance with Class requirements, and which reflect best industry standards and proven practice. BOS can also provide Corporate DP Operations Manuals which incorporate the operational requirements of the Client, as part of the ISM Code.

Marine Operations Manuals

Marine Operations Manuals are produced to be fully compliant with Class and IMO requirements. A concisely documented and well laid out MOM is a vital reference point for both new and experienced employees, providing sufficient detail to offer a clear insight into the safe operation of the vessel’s plant and systems (including safety systems) and to enable them to maintain the vessel in a safe operational condition.

Pre-Hire Audit and Inspection

BOS provides suitably qualified personnel for any Pre-Hire vessel / offshore MODU evaluation as may be required by the Client.

Rig Operational Performance Studies

BOS can provide various operational studies designed to improve operating performance by enhancing planning, execution and mentoring throughout the project using personnel with extensive deepwater experience.

Close

HSE Compliance

Verification of Operational and Personnel compliance to recognised international, Flag state and corporate safety regimes.

BowTie Hazard Analysis

Use of the accredited Governors CG BowTie assessors utilising the latest software for the analysis of specific risks, barriers, and associated controlling and mitigating measures for High Risk operational events, within the Offshore Marine and Drilling Environment.

The process also identifies critical systems, roles and responsibilities, and produces a matrix of Simultaneous Operations Boundaries (SOOB’s).

HSE IADC Safety Case Preparation

BOS prepare and draft Rig and Owner specific IADC HSE Safety case documentation, to provide a clear indication of the integration of the Corporate HSE Management Structure, from Senior Management to Worksite, and the application of that Management Structure to ensure a safe system of work is adopted. The document, incorporating a consultative approach with the unit operational team, for full Hazard Identification and Assessment with the use of BowTie Software for further analysis of any high risk or any non ALARP processes.

Marine and Technical Incident/Accident Investigation

BOS provide in-depth accident/ incident investigation expertise on Bluewater, Offshore and all Marine-related issues to a Client’s mandate. BOS provides technical and operational expertise to construct and deduce a Root Cause Analysis, with specific findings, observations and recommendations. BOS can also assist the Client in facilitating investigations, assuming the role as lead investigators, and in the preparation and presentation of comprehensive accident investigation documentation and reporting. BOS can provide Client support services, for the training of their personnel, in front line accident investigation techniques and methodology.

DP Emergency Training

This course employs vessel-specific, credible, emergency operational scenarios, to facilitate a scope of Emergency DP Operation training, with both DP Operators and Marine Engineers, to stress the need for constant vigilance and awareness during DP Operations.

Close

DPO Mentoring

BOS can provide a small group of highly experienced DP Masters to deliver on-board DPO Mentoring. We are able to offer simulation with bespoke software, enabling the DPO’s to demonstrate their skills in all likely (and unlikely) scenarios. In particular, we focus on the areas of DP Control in an emergency - i.e. the first response in the event of a failure, the initial failure assessment and response, and subsequent activities with regard to system knowledge and the routine, but particular, operations of heading and position changes (initially in themselves simple operations but which require consideration of other operations happening simultaneously, i.e. marine or drilling activities and power or thruster limitations).

Close

DP Drilling Training

A presentation aimed at those personnel who have little or no knowledge of dynamic positioning systems, operations and the components, hardware and controls associated with the systems. A one day introductory course to outline the concept of a DP unit and how it remains on location within the potential operating limits. This course is particularly useful to both Marine and Drilling personnel, requiring an understanding of DP Operations.

Close

Marine / Vessel Audit and Inspection

BOS can undertake either an industry standard vessel survey using accredited auditors and associated protocols (CMID or OVID), or an in-house (BOS) DP Operational Management Audit, to determine the effectiveness of the DP Operational management on-board specific vessels.

Emergency Response Manuals

BOS can provide vessel-specific Emergency Response Manuals, using the Station Bill as the key tool, to clearly identify the roles and responsibilities of all personnel in an emergency (defining the aspects of Communication and Occurrence in emergency control). The use of text is enhanced by clear critical point flow charts and tabulated critical activities.

Close

IMO Ballast Management Plans

BOS subscribes to current IMO Guidance, to provide a standard Ballast Management Plan applicable to a specific vessel, or MODU, and its associated activities or trading pattern.

Close

Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Manuals

BOS provide clear and precise vessel-specific documentation, to provide personnel with the information necessary to enable them to quickly understand how to use the safety equipment on-board in the event of an emergency.

Close

Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP) and SMPEP Manuals

SOPEP and SMPEP Manuals are drafted to reflect MARPOL requirements applicable to each specific vessel / unit, and its operation. This document forms part of the vessel’s suite of Emergency Response documentation.

Close

Well Control Manuals

BOS has written comprehensive Well Control Manuals for a number of major Offshore Drilling Contractors, incorporating the latest techniques in modern Well Control. Manuals can be tailored to a Client’s requirements, and can cover all MODU and Well conditions. Corporate Well Control Policies and Formatting can be included.

Close

Environmental Impact Assessments

BOS can provide specialists to produce Environmental Impact Assessments prior to the commencement of exploratory drilling operations.

Close

Equipment Verification (including Well Control Equipment)

BOS provides verification services to ensure contractual compliance. We catalogue the equipment’s Certificates of Conformity and check that the specification of the equipment conforms both to requirements and to the appropriate certification authority (eg. API).

Significant Potential Accident Risk Assessment (SPARA) (based on ISO 17776)

A safety based study for a vessel or installation, which demonstrates that adequate controls are in place so that HSE risks can be considered both tolerable and ALARP. The study considers the exposure of the vessel to major hazards (with a significant potential to cause an accident) and considers the structure, critical systems, and on-going operations. The fundamental validity of the document relies upon the knowledge and experience of the unit’s on-board Operational Team.
